Overthe summit are scattered the small stone buildings of El-Jib,which in part are composed of materials of great antiquity.Without Avails and gates, the city is destitute of fortifications,and the crooked, unpaved streets are accessible to all. Thepresent inhabitants are an illustration that character, like names,is transmitted from one generation to another. In their addressand shrewdness they resemble their ancestors. The Sheikh ofGibeon is a man of medium height, and, unlike his countrymen,is emotional, communicative, and exceedingly gracious.
