Description

Good morning all! Continuing the Irish Political Figures images, today we have women carrying placards at some unknown location in protest at the "reign of terror" in Ireland. Not a dog in sight and wet enough to be Dublin or London but where was it and who were they?

[/photos/scorbet/ Sharon.corbet] correctly notes that the label for this image has been 'swapped' for [ another]. And should almost certainly instead read "Two women activists holding protest posters at an unidentified location". That mistake however helps with confirmation of location, as almost certainly this image was part of a series taken near the British Embassy in Washington DC - during protests against the then ongoing Irish War of Independence. Sharon highlights an album of images covering similar events in the same area/period. [/photos/66151649@N02/ oaktree_brian_1976] provides a link to a contemporary news article, which has a near identical image, and seems to confirm the ladies pictured as "Mrs James Walsh and Mrs Harry Walker of New York City" picketing the Washington embassy in April 1920....
