Sunday, March 29, 2015, 3pm Balcony Theatre at Miracle Theatre280 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables, FL Join Florida Grand Opera (FGO) and the Florida International University (FIU) School of International and Public Affairs for an afternoon of personal reflections on the experience of leaving home and traveling to a strange, new land. Punctuated by music from FGO’s upcoming production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s celebrated work The Consul, this program will take the audience on a journey from Europe to Cuba to Haiti and finally to the Middle East. Together we will pause and reflect on the struggles faced by individuals and communities who fled violence, political repression, or abject poverty and embraced the challenges and hopes found within the Miami landscape. This event was coordinated by the Václav Havel Initiative for Human Rights & Diplomacy, the European Studies Program, and the Cuban Research Institute at the School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University and Florida Grand Opera. This event is funded in part by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Thank you to the Miracle Theatre, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Barbara Stein for additional support. |
