Description

Sunday I came by this old bubble-car or Knutschkugel, that was in rather good condition, in Frederiksberg.

To me it seems like the concept is straight out of the future: simple, cheap to produce.

If produced today, it could be made extremely cheap, and much safer.

I know that BMW still produces "cabin-scooters", but the prices are way too high.

The reason I call it a "Riisbil" (bil means car in Danish) - was because my fathers boss, last name of Riis, had one.

I clearly remember my father climbing out of the front door, when he was given a ride home - it looked VERY strange to a 4-year old.

Yes, amazingly enough, the Isetta had plenty room for two grown men.

Try to bike through Copenhagen, or any other major city of the world, and imagine what it would look like if all cars that only had one passenger, drove electrically driven "Riisbiler".

The so-called, Danish produced, Ellert was that car. Unfortunately it went out of production, underpowered and with major manufacturing problems.

If produced today, the Ellert might fare better, it too was many years ahead of it's time.
