English: Title: "White Wings" of Bucharest. Everywhere throughout the Balkans women will be found doing the hard labor generally performed by man in the western countries. This shows Roumanian women working as "White Wings" or street cleaners in Bucharest. It was on the advice of American Red Cross doctors and relief workers that many Balkan towns cleaned their streets. The Americans found that many of the epidemics that were sweeping the country had their origin in bad public sanitary conditions. When Bucarest acted upon the advice and decided to clean-up, it found many more applicants for the job among the women than the men
