Summary edit
Description'Tom Pudding train' on the canal at Goole 1882 (archive ref DDX882-19) (28537125963).jpg |
English: The term 'Tom Pudding' was used to describe tub boats on the Aire and Calder Navigation. They were introduced in 1863 and remained in use until 1985. The tub boats carried coal from Stanley Ferry in South Yorkshire to the port of Goole in West Yorkshire (now part of the East Riding). Such was the popularity of the Tom Pudding train that it competed for some time with freight rail transportation. |
