Description
Français : La gravure « La clémence de Desaix » de Vivant Denon représente Desaix rendant la justice sous un palmier en Égypte. Elle est parue dans « Voyage dans la basse et la haute Égypte » en 1802.

Desaix demande à un jeune voleur de fusils de livrer les personnes qui l'on incité à agir et, menace de le punir, s’il se tait. L’enfant répond uniquement, mettant son bonnet aux pieds du général, « Dieu seul m’a inspiré. Voilà ma tête, faites-la couper ».

« Pauvre petit malheureux, qu’on le renvoie ! » répond Desaix. Citation de Vivant Denon.
