中文（繁體）：這是一張日本大正初年「埔里社分遣隊」卻誤植成「埔里社守備隊」的老明信片，也是由正在攻讀暨南大學博士班的沈昱廷從日本購回捐贈給埔里圖書館收藏的珍貴鎮寶。這張老明信片非常有助於解讀辯證日治時期「埔里社守備隊」與「埔里社分遣隊」的歷史脈絡。

明治28年(1895)11月，大埔城內清代的北路協鎮府駐紮地(今埔里城隍廟一帶)被日軍接收成為「埔里社守備隊」的營地。後「埔里社守備隊」駐紮地約於明治40年(西元1907年)以後改為「埔里社分遣隊」的兵營。因此這張老明信片的最下方雖印有「埔里社守備隊」等字樣，但影像中的兵營大門右邊卻是掛著「埔里社分遣隊」的單位牌，會造成這樣的誤植，是因為這裡雖已改成「埔里社分遣隊」了，但是埔里人當時還是都慣稱這個兵營為「埔里社守備隊」兵營所造成的現象。

此外，我們發現埔里社分遣隊兵營大門的左邊另掛有一塊題為「○○病院埔里社分院」的單位牌(較上面的字體被樹遮住了致無法辨識)，應是日治初期隸屬日本陸軍的「台中衛戍病院埔里社分院」。這個病院原在埔里街東門的王爺廟，後在大正6年(1917)埔里社大震中震倒，推測才因此搬遷到埔里社分遣隊的兵營來。因此推論這張老明信片印行的年代約在大正6年(1917)左右。

還有，這張老明信片的左下角，另印有印行者為「朝倉剝製所製」，這也是推論這張明信片年份重要的線索。據查，「朝倉剝製所」為日人朝倉喜代松所開設，他原是一位按摩師，於明治39年(1906)住進埔里社，後來投入蝴蝶、昆蟲、鳥獸等特產採集、剝製與販售，因為埔里的觀光商機興旺，所以也兼印明信片販賣。現留傳的台灣早期的老明信片中，有好幾張都是約1917─1918年由「朝倉剝製所製」印行的，因此我們研判這張明信片約為1917、1918年左右所攝。

「埔里社分遣隊」的兵營大門口，左邊有木製的衛哨亭和一位荷槍的日本衛兵，這位衛兵的軍服也是明治45年(1912)小改款的「四五式」軍服樣式。右邊則立有電燈桿和郵筒(埔里社自大正5年(1916)後才有電燈)，兵營左、右還有一對大埔城時代的石獅出現在此。
