Description
English: Church of Saint Margaret, Whitton, Norfolk, north wall, mural monument to John Norris (1711-1734) of Great Witchingham, Norfolk, who married Anna Carthew (1712-1767), a daughter of Thomas Carthew of Benacre, Suffolk. He died aged 32, leaving two infant children. Heraldry: ''Quarterly argent and gules, in the second and third quarters a fret or over all a fess azure (Norris, Baron Norris of Rycote) (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.738 "Norris of Wychingham, Norfolk". These appear to be a differenced version of the arms of Despencer). Impaling: Or, a chevron sable between three murres proper (Carthew) (The common murre or common guillemot (Uria aalge) is a large auk)
