Summary edit

Description
English: The Jehangir Mahal is one of two major palaces in Orchha. It was built by Raja Bir Singh (Veer Singh Dev) in honor of his friend Mughal emperor Jahangir. This square plan palace was completed in two stages. The first in 1606, to which the ribbed dome and four corner chhatris were added in 1618. Like the nearby Raja Mahal, the Jehangir Mahal is elaborately and colorfully painted. Other impressive architectural features include the Hindola-style gateways and elephant brackets, with arches and rooms completed in the Indo-Islamic style. The dome, chhatris, paintings, pendentives inspired by lotus reflect Rajput and Bundela Hindu style. Thus, the Jehangir Mahal illustrates a fusion of different styles, among the most sophisticated and last such major monuments from the Bundela and Mughal era.
