En-route to the top of the Jungfrau during a memorable trip to Switzerland in December 1999. Not the cheapest of train journeys and to keep costs down we purchased an early bird ticket necessitating an early start from Interlaken. As a result in December, the start of the journey it was only just beginning to get light. However the outward route via Grindelwald where the first change was made it was sufficiently light to capture a shot of BDhe4/4 no. 118 in the early morning sunshine before stage two of this journey. This section, is 800mm gauge,1500V dc with all stock being rack fitted. Operator is Wengernalpbahn (WAB) being the middle section of the Jungfrau railways. Train 439, 08:19 Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg taken on 7 December 1999. Soon after leaving here the train reverses at Grindelwald Gründ before the steep ascent to Kleine Scheidegg. |
