| Description |
A visit to Doncaster Works on 9 May 1982 a few months after the final members of the class were retired from operation. 55022 "Royal Scots Grey", formerly D9000 was assigned to work the final run in passenger service on BR on 2 January 1982 as a special railtour from Edinburgh to London's Kings Cross. At the time its fate was unknown and along with the others and it ended up at Doncaster. Fortunately it was secured for preservation September 1983 by the Deltic 9000 Fund and ended up at the Nene Valley Railway near Peterborough. Jumping forward to the 1990s, 55022/D9000 secured a mainline certificate and as such was able to run charters and service trains. One famous working was a Summer Saturday service to Ramsgate for a couple of years during the late 1990s. |
