JPEG file comment | MINIATURIST, French
(active 12th century in Limoges) Pentecost 12th century Illumination on parchment Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris This miniature is from the Sacramentary of Saint-Étienne executed in Limoges for the Saint-Étienne Cathedral in Toulouse. (The Sacramentary is a book containing the prayers that the priest recited at Mass.) The style of the miniature was probably inspired by the works made by the famous workshop of enamellers in Limoges during the twelfth century.
