Description
English: The apartment building located at 1305 Potomac Street NW (left) in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., was built in 1921 and designed by David L. Stern and Frank Tomlinson. The house located at 3249 N Street NW (right) was built in 1820. It was the home of Prussian immigrant and chief clerk of the US Coast and Geodetic Survey, Samuel Hein. During the Civil War Hein would fly the US flag from one of the windows, angering neighbors that were Confederate sympathizers, and ran a soup kitchen for Union troops in his back yard. The buildings are contributing properties to the Georgetown Historic District.
