Description
English: 130709-N-CE356-005 INDIAN HEAD, Md. (July 9, 2013) A ground breaking ceremony today celebrated the start of construction for a $62 million project that will both decrease energy costs for military commands on Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head, Md., and demolish the last remaining coal-fired power plant operated by the Navy. The project will modernize utility services critical to sustaining key mission capabilities on the installation, and will provide decentralized steam and a 3.5 megawatt co-generation facility for electricity and steam. The project will reduce energy consumption on the base by 41 percent and reduce annual energy costs by 38 percent. Ground breaking participants were (l. to r.)
