Description
Deutsch: ÖBB 1042.517 in Leoben, 14. Februar 1992.

In den 1960er und 1970er Jahren wurden von Simmering-Graz-Pauker etwa 260 dieser Loks als Universallokomotiven gebaut. Stärker motorisierte, in der Nummerngruppe 1042.5 zusammengefasste Maschinen wurden im gesamten Netz der ÖBB eingesetzt und waren überall vor Reisezügen anzutreffen.

Ab 1995 wurden 174 Maschinen vor allem für die Verwendung mit Wendezügen umgebaut und zur Baureihe 1142 umgezeichnet. Die verbliebenen 1042er wurden ausgeschieden. Aktuell (Jänner 2014) ist die Baureihe 1142 immer noch im Einsatz, doch werden mit der zunehmenden Indienststellung moderner Loks immer mehr davon abgestellt.

Built by Simmering Graz Pauker, over 260 of these locos were built during the 1960s and 1970s for mixed traffic use. The largest batch being numbered in the 1042.5 series were higher powered being allocated right across the ÖBB network. As such, they were commonplace on passenger trains.

From 1995, 174 class 1042s were re-built and re-numbered as class 1142s primarily for push-pull operation of passenger trains. The remaining 1042s then were withdrawn. At the time of writing (January 2012) 1142s still operate, the fleet is now on the decline as more modern locos are being built.
