Description

Seen inside Willesden depot in North West London on 15 April 1982 is 87028 "Lord President".

Willesden depot was constructed in the early 1960s as the base for AC electric locomotive repairs and servicing at the London end of the West Coast Main Line. All 36 class 87 locomotives were allocated here from when they were first built in the 1970s. They were mainly assigned to InterCity workings on the WCML, through to privatisation in the 19900s until gradual replacement by Pendolino high speed train sets.

There are no longer any class 87s in revenue earning stock in the UK. As of the end of 2011, some have been scrapped, 3 preserved with the rest exported to Bulgaria or available for lease by Long Marston based Europhoenix.
