Description
Deutsch: Die alttestamentarische Heldin Judith rettet ihre belagerte Heimatstadt, indem sie den feindlichen Feldherrn Holofernes in seinem Lager aufsuchte, ihn verführte und ihm dann den Kopf abschlug. Das Motiv des Gemäldes wurde durch Überholungen zu einem unbekannten Zeitpunkt vor 1819 verändert: Nun sah man darauf Joel, die Sisera mit einem Nagel tötet. Erst nach umfangreichen Restaurierung und Abnahme der Übermalen 1973 und 1984 ist wieder die ursprüngliche Komposition Cranach zu sehen.
