JPEG file comment | MINIATURIST, Hungarian
(active in 15th century) Theorica nova planetarum 15th century Illumination on parchment Biblioteka Jagiellonska, Cracow One of the centres of the astronomical studies at north of the Alps was the court of János Vitéz, Bishop of Nagyvárad, later Cardinal of Esztergom in Hungary. This codex on the planets was written by Georgius de Peuerbach and rewritten by his pupil Regiomontanus. The simple decoration of the codex contains both Gothic and Renaissance elements. It is remarkable that for the miniaturists the legibility of the text had the same importance as the quality of decoration.
