Catania Borgo marks the end of the Ferrovia Circumetnea narrow gauge line from Riposto. The line originally continued on from here in the direction behind the camera through to the Port station mainly through tunnel under the streets of Catania. Thus section was closed off in the 1990s and in 1999 the Catania Metro system which followed the route (and further on) opened up. Seen here on 16 October 2017 is railcar no. ADe18 having arrived in on train 22, 10:3 Randazzo to Catania Borgo. To the right is one of four diesel 2-car sets branded "Vulcano" built by Newag in Poland in 2016. Set DMU-003 is on train 23, 12:35 Catania Borgo to Randazzo. One of the entrances to the Catania Metro station (also operated by FCE) can be seen to the right. |
