WASHINGTON (May 3, 2018) The Washington Navy Yard, established in 1799, is America’s oldest Navy base. Throughout its history, Washington Navy Yard served as a construction yard and later a gun factory. Today, it supports technical, legal, and administrative headquarters staffs as well as being home to senior Navy leaders and being the ceremonial Quarterdeck of the Navy.
