Summary edit

Description Illustration of a machine that Charles Thurber called his “Thurber’s Patent Printer” in his U.S. Patent No. 3,228 issued on August 26, 1843. (It is totally different from his “Mechanical Chirographer”, patented two years later, No. 4,271, November 18, 1845, which mechanically moves a pen to mimic the movement of hand writing. The original source confused them and named the file incorrectly.) The respective patent drawings make absolutely clear that this image is not Thurber’s Chirographer. Instead it shows “Thurber’s Patent Printer”.
