English: This is a fascinating 1850 map of the French island colony of Reunion in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Madagascar. Depicts the island in moderate detail with both political and geographical indications. The whole is surrounded by elaborate decorative engravings designed to illustrate both the natural beauty and trade richness of the island. There is a short textual history of the island included at the bottom of the map. Today the beautiful Island of Reunion is a popular tourist destination.
Français : Une fascinante carte de la colonie française de l'île de la Réunion dans l'Océan Indien, au-delà des côtes de Madagascar. Réalisée en 1850, elle dépeint l'île, de manière modérée, avec des indications géographiques, démographiques, culturelles et politiques. L'ensemble est agrémenté de gravures décoratives élaborées et conçues pour illustrer la beauté naturelle et la richesse de l'industrie et du commerce de l'île. Un court texte historique est inclus au bas de la carte. En médaillon, les poètes Evariste Parny, d'une part, Antoine Bertin, d'autre part. Aujourd'hui la belle île de la Réunion est une destination touristique populaire.
