Questo bellissimo quadro, che appartiene ad una serie di " Danze della morte" molto in voga in quel periodo. rappresenta una processione di persone di tutte le età e le condizioni sociali, condotte con sè dalla morte. Infatti nel suo seguito potete notare principi ed alti prelati, insieme a gente del popolo, giovani vecchi, uomini e donne. Notate il commiato della giovane sposa dall'amato marito, soldato lanzichenecco, sulla destra del quadro, mentre sulla sinistra la vecchia mendicante che supplica la morte di portarla con sè, ma viene lasciata indietro senza che le sue preghiere vengano ascoltate. Notate anche con quanto amore e dolcezza sono ritratti i bimbi che precedono la morte. Si vuole che l'artista abbia raffigurato i suoi figli portati via da una malattia.
