Summary edit
Description18th Century bridge remnant - geograph.org.uk - 1064633.jpg |
English: 18th Century bridge remnant. In 1788 William Reynolds, a local Ironmaster, had a canal built to his iron foundry at Ketley from a junction with the Shropshire canal near Oakengates.
Very little remains of this canal but at Hartsbridge Road this small remnant of a bridge abutment remains. In the 1820s Thomas Telford built a section of his Holyhead Road partly on the line of the canal, using the Google map satellite images the route of the old canal can still be traced in parts. 1079471 |
