English: Postcard photo of Hamilton Street, looking east from Eighth. Taken about 1900. The Soldiers and Sailor's monument is visible at Center Square, which was erected in 1899. Note Hamilton Street is not paved and an absence of any kind of motor vehicle. The streetcar tracks are raised above the street, and the streetcars are likely towed by horses. Also note the green color of the streetcars, likely owned by the Lehigh Valley Traction Company, forerunner of the Lehigh Valley Transit Company, whose cars were red. |
