In 1903 W.F. Fiske, then Assistant State Entomologist of Georgia, was appointed by Hopkins as a Special Field Agent to study the forest insect problems of the Southern States. He continued on this assignment for a few years only and was then transferred to the Gipsy Moth work in the New England States. Fiske became well known for his work on the introduction of parasites of the Gipsy Moth and Brown Tail Moths.

Phillips was in charge of Bee Culture for the Bureau of Entomology.
