Description
English: One memorable steel truss bridge that stood in the state of Florida, is the Jennings Bridge. It was located at the Alapaha River about 2.1 miles east of Jennings. 0.6 miles downstream from State Road 150. The contract for building the bridge was awarded to the American Bridge Company of New York City for $2,788 on December 3, 1901 by the Board of County Commisioners. The bridge is no longer in existence. It was a through Pratt, pin-connected, steel truss. The only such design using die forged connections. The Beaty Bridge. The oldest steel truss bridge of Florida. Located 1.5 miles northeast of Jennings, Fl. on the Alapahoochee River. Pratt Pony truss built by Roanoke Bridge Company of Roanoke, Virginia. Built in March of 1911 at the cost of $4,650, completed in November 1911. Condemned in 1970.
