Description

1912 Post Office Masterton

Building opened 9 May 1900 in the unavoidable absence of Right Hon Mr Seddon. builders Coradine and Whittaker.

In addition to letters telegrams money order and savings bank business and telephones the responsibilities of the Post Office included:

Government Life Insurance
Collection of Land and Income Taxes
Game licences, livestock fees, machinery fees, money for NZ Consols, money for the Public Trustee and Advances to Settlers Office, it pays money on behalf of The Treasury and like services including payment of old age pensions.
