| Description |
English: The first Good Shepherd Home Farm, purchased in 1914 from the Klein family southwest of Allentown along the Little Lehigh, just to the east of Bogarts Bridge.
The Good Shephard Home employed its residents and eventually hired farmers to tend to the farm. They grew various fruits and vegetables, such as apples, beans and peas, and they raised cattle and pigs. In 1938 the farm was sold to the City of Allentown when the home needed funds for continued operations. Today, the original farm owned by Good Shepherd are part of Queen City Airport and the Allentown Park System, including the property where the Allentown Police Academy is located. The Good Shepherd home purchased another farm near Wescoesville in 1947, which it operated until 1960 providing milk to the Lehigh Valley Cooperative Dairy. |
