Summary edit

Description

The 1936 Ford Model 68 retained the same basic body style of the 1935 Model 48 but carried a restyled front end and new rear fenders. The hood now coming over the grille which now had just vertical bars, also new for 1936 were the use of pressed steel artillery solid wheels instead of wire wheels and the external horns were hidden behind the fenders. Available again in Standard or Deluxe (The Deluxe featured bright chrome around the grille, headlamps and windshield, and upmarket interior). Standard models were available in 2 or 4 door sedan, in trunkback or flatback, 5 window 2 door coupe, 2 door cabriolet, 4 door phaeton, 4 door wagon and the 2 door pickup. Deluxe models in 2 and 4 door sedans, 3 and 5 window 2 door coupes, roadster and phaeton. The 36 Ford was not only built in the US but also in other countries including Australia, where coupe utility and roadster utilitys were built. Ford Australia was the first company to produce a coupe utility as a result of a 1932 letter from the wife of a farmer in Victoria, Australia asking for “a vehicle to go to church in on a Sunday and which can carry our pigs to market on Mondays”.
