Description1952 Austin A90 Atlantic (5900551636).jpg |
IS1952 This was one immaculate Austin, and apparently has been here since new (fifty-nine years!) There's a bit of history behind the Atlantic and I've got some free time on my hands, so here goes... Britain was struggling to get back on its feet after World War 2, so even though all the British car manufacturers could have sold their entire stocks to local customers, the government decided that all their cars had to be exported, something Austin had foreseen. The Atlantic was styled for the American market and while it had the potential to appeal to customers over the sea it was named after, its performance was too leisurely for power-obsessed American buyers and was considered far too radical for a traditionally conservative make like Austin. Just 7981 were made between 1949-1952. I personally think they are very cool. |
