Summary edit

Description The 3rd Generation Chieftans, built from 1955-58, got a new chassis, body and engine. The 6 cyl was dropped and the 1st V8 in a Pontiac introduced. The base model was the Chieftan and mid spec, the Star Chief. New for 1957 was the top spec, Super Chief. Also 1957 saw even heavier bumper/grille, new 'missile' side trim and V shaped rear fender tips. The engine increased in size again, now to 347 cu in. They were available in Sedan, Coupe and Convertible.
