Description Oct. 25, 1961. U. S. tanks move up to Checkpoint Charlie following a dispute with East Germany over American access to East Berlin. Checkpoint Charlie was the name given by the Western Allies to the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War.
