The Chevrolet Motor Company was formed in 1911. All sheetmetal, except the doors, was changed again in 1962, a more conservative looking car. 1963 was just a mild facelift, slightly different grille and bumpers. Models for 63 were; The base model Biscayne (high set side trim, twin round tail lights), in 2 or 4 door Sedans and Wagon. Mid spec, Bel Air (low set side trim, twin round tail lights); 2 or 4 door Sedans and Wagon. Top model; Impala (more elaborate side trim, sergeant stripes on front fenders, triple round tail lights); 2 door Hardtop Sport Coupe, Convertible, 4 door Sedan, Hardtop Sport Sedan and Wagon. The high performance Impala SS (Super Sport) was introduced in 1961, 2 door Hardtop Coupe or Convertible Also available in 1963 was the C2 Corvette Sports car, rear engine Corvair and compact Chevy II (Nova) Chevrolets were also produced in Australia by General Motors Holden from 1926-68, in 1962, only the 4 door Sedan was sold there, along side the 4 door Pontiac Laurentian Sedan. Engines; 140hp 230 6 cyl, 195hp 283 V8, the new 250, 300, 340 or 360hp 327 V8 and 340, 400 or 425hp 409 V8 |
