Description

Accession: NHHC 1964-364-R Flag, Car, FADM A five star Fleet Admiral automobile flag belonging to FADM Chester Nimitz. The rank of Fleet Admiral was created by an Act of Congress on December 14th 1944. There were four Fleet Admirals: Chester Nimitz, William D. Leahy, Ernest J. King, and William F. Halsey Jr. The rank of Fleet Admiral is not a permanent rank and it has not been awarded to any other officers in the United States Navy since World War II.
