| Description |
The Chevrolet Motor Company was formed in 1911. A mid sized car, the Chevelle was introduced in 1964, actually close to the size of the 55-57 Chevys. With quad headlights and nice clean lines, the Chevelle was intended to compete with the Ford Fairlane and Plymouth Belvedere. The El Camino Coupe Utility was now Chevelle based. The base model was the Chevelle 300, available in 2 or 4 door Sedans and 2 or 4 door Wagons. The upmarket model was the Chevelle Malibu; 2 door Sport Coupe, Convertible, Wagon, 4 door Sedan and Wagon The Malibu SS was the performance model, only available in 2 door Sport Coupe or Convertible, it got disc brakes, bucket seats, console, extra gauges and standard 283 cu in V8 (327 V8 available in mid 1964). The El Camino Coupe Utility was available in base or Custom (bucket seats and console) Engines; 120hp 194 ad 155hp 230 cu in 6 cyl, 195 and 220hp 283 V8 and later in the year, 250 and 300hp 327 V8 Also available in 1964 was the full size Biscayne, Bel Air and Impala, the C2 Corvette Sting Ray Sports car, the rear engine Corvair and the compact Chevy II (Nova) |
