Description

The Ford GT40 is a high performance British-American (MkI, MkII, and MkIII) or American (MkIV) sports car and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive times, from 1966 to 1969, taking the title from Ferrari. 1966 winners; Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon in a Mk II. (Kiwis) 1967 winners; Dan Gurney and A.J.Foyt in a Mk IV. 1968 winners; Rodriguez and Bianchi in a Mk I The car was named the GT (for Grand Touring) with the 40 representing its overall height of 40 inches.

The Mk Is were powered by 289 cu.in engines as used in the Ford Mustang, later cars got the 427 from the Galaxie.
