| Description |
The VK Commodore was built from Feb 1984-Feb 1986. The VB being the first, then VC and VH, this 4th model, the VK was quite a major update on the first generation Commodore body, new 6 light window set up, all plastic bumper/skirt front and rear, new look grille and tail lights and new dash. New Black engines with computer controlled ignition and in 1985, the 5044cc V8 down to 4987 for Group A Homologation rules. The Holden Dealer Team, run by Peter Brock, built performance cars for Holden, making money for the race team and to homologate parts for racing. Available was the Executive based Group A, Berlina based Group 3 and Calais based Director. This is the car that Peter Brock and Larry Perkins won the James Hardie 1000 at Bathurst in in 1984. The Day-glo VK Commodore built by the Holden Dealer Team was the last of the Group C touring cars, the 'Last of the Big Bangers' was how the media portrayed it. The sister car of Harvey and Parsons was second and the Mazda RX7 of Hansford and Moffat was third. |
