Description

The 1992-2017 Dodge Viper was conceived as a futuristic take on the classic American muscle sports car, notably the Viper took many styling cues from the Shelby Cobra Daytona. Carroll Shelby, who was involved with the design, piloted a pre production car as the pace vehicle in the 1991 Indianapolis 500 race. The body was of tubular frame with RTM fiberglass panels. The V10 was Chrysler based but in aluminium. The car was spartan lacking exterior door handles, side windows and roof The first generation was the 1991-95 SR I (400hp 488 cu in V10) The second; 1996-2002 SR II (415hp, removable hardtop now available, the GTS Coupe in 1996) The third; 2003-07 ZB I; SRT-10 replaced GTS and RT/10, restyled, sharper, angled body (500hp 505 cu in V10) The fourth; 2008-10 ZB II; (600hp 511 cu in V10) vented engine cover The fifth. 2013-17 VX (640hp 511 cu in V10)
