Summary edit
Description1 GL Bench mark on St Giles tower - geograph.org.uk - 1464581.jpg |
English: 1 GL Bench mark on St Giles tower. A First Geodetic Levelling bench mark and bolt on the north side of the St Giles tower. This mark is part of the Newtown to Chester levelling line between 1840-1860. Interestingly the mark is below the protruding stonework, which has had to be cut through to allow for the surveying staff to be held vertically. I wonder what the incumbent at the time thought about that? For its location near the north porch see 1464620. There is also a Flush Bracket on the other side of the tower - 1464596. |
