Description

La rivière Tungabhadra s'écoule dans un éboulis de rochers, elle formait ainsi une barrière naturelle au nord de la ville de Vijayanagar.

Sur ses rives, se trouvent de nombreux petits sanctuaires dédiés à Shiva. Depuis des siècles, on se déplace sur cette rivière avec des barques circulaires en osier tressé.

Le débit d'eau de cette rivière est aujourd'hui régulé par un barrage qui a été construit en amont près de la ville d'Hospet.
