Description

For several years now, I have made a rail trip to the Czech Republic in the spring. Primarily to cover branch lines. 2015's trip was to see me visit the area generally to the west of Praha. I flew into Linz in Austria to enter the Czech Republic via the Summerau border crossing. Over 20 years after my first visit to what was still Czechoslovakia at the time, I used the same route to enter. As with so many other scenes, things have dramatically changed. The line is now electrified on the Czech side and as no passports need to be checked, to speed things up, ÖBB locos work trains right through from Linz to České Budějovice.

Seen on 20 June 2015, 1116.186 makes a short stop at Summerau whilst working train R3804 "Matthias Schönerer", 13:15 Linz Hbf to České Budějovice. The train sets used are 4-coach ÖBB CityShuttle in push-pull format. Some trains are extended through to Praha, being formed of Czech Railways (ČD) stock and changing over from an ÖBB class 1116 to usually a ČD class 362 at České Budějovice.
