Deutsch: 22.03.2005 01219 Dresden-Strehlen: Villa Wasa, Wasasplatz 1 (GMP: 51.028532,13.760175). Erbaut 1903. Eines der bedeutendsten Jugendstilgebäude in Dresden. Bauherr war der Glasfabrikant Gustav Kühnel. Im ersten Obergeschoß wohnte der impressionistische Maler Gotthardt Kuehl von 1906 bis zu seinem Tode 1915. Nach 1945 enteignet diente die Villa ab 1963 als Klubhaus August Bebel mit Musikraum, Fernsehraum und Lesezimmer sowie einem HO Café. Nach der Wende hatte von 1991 bis 1993 das Dresdner Kulturamt seinen Sitz. Nach einer Sanierung im Jahr 1994 wird das Haus heute als Wohn- und Bürohaus sowie durch eine Gaststätte im Stil der Jahrhundertwende genutzt. Zum neuen Geschäftszentrum Strehlens mit Gasthof, Geschäften und Wohnhäusern entwickelte sich ab 1870 der Wasaplatz. Seinen Namen erhielt dieser Platz wie auch die benachbarte Wasastraße nach dem polnisch-schwedischen Königsgeschlecht Wasa. Die Gemahlin König Alberts, Carola von Wasa-Holstein-Gottor (1833-1907) entstammte dieser Familie und sollte mit der Namensgebung geehrt werden. 1853 hatte sie den sächsischen Thronfolger geheiratet.
