Windbergbahn Freital-Birkigt - Possendorf Bahnhof Gittersee (Dresden-Gittersee) 1. Bergstation der Windbergbahn (275 m ü. N.N.)
Die Steilstrecke der auch als „Sächsischen Semmeringbahn@" bekannten ersten deutschen Gebirgsbahn von der Talstation Freital-Birkigt nach Dresden-Gittersee ist eine geniale technische Meisterleistung des Eisenbahnbau- und Vermessungswesens ihrer Zeit. Die Strecke wurde in den Jahren 1855/56 nach den Plänen von Oberingenieur Guido Brescius als Kohlenbahn projektiert und gebaut. Die Streckenlänge zur Talstation beträgt 5,2 km und der Höhenunterschied 117 m. Der Bahnhof Gittersee wurde im Jahr 1907 von den Königlich Sächsischen Staatseisenbahnen (K.Sächs.Sts.E.B.) für den allgemeinen Güter- und Personenverkehr ausgebaut. Während der 20-minütigen windungsreichen Bergfahrt gibt es beeindruckende Aussichten in vier Täler und auf deren Höhen. Im Jahr 1957 wurde der öffentliche Personenverkehr und 1993 der Güterverkehr eingestellt. Als eine der ältesten und technisch anspruchsvollsten sächsischen Eisenbahnstrecken ist diese seit 1980 ein Technisches Denkmal der Produktions- und Verkehrsgeschichte. Die Rekonstruktion des Empfangsgebäudes in den Ausbauzustand des Jahres 1916 erfolgte von 1980 bis 1983 durch die AG „Windbergbahn" 3/82 des Deutschen Modelleisenbahn-Verbandes (DMV) der DDR. Die Neugestaltung und Sanierung nach den Normativen der Deutschen Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG) um 1928 erfolgte ab 2007 durch den „Windbergbahn e.V." mit Hilfe von Spenden und Sponsoren.
