Description Wie in vielen deutschen Städten, so waren auch in Stralsund die Bettelorden der Dominikaner und Franziskaner vertreten. Ihre Klöster wurden um die Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts gegründet, und deren Anlagen können mit Fug und Recht zu den größten Bauwerken des Mittelalters gezählt werden. Während das Klostergebäude an der Mönchstraße fast gänzlich erhalten blieb, ist beim Johanniskloster lediglich die Klausur erhalten. Die 77 Meter lange Hallenkirche brannte 1624 nieder. Die kleine Johanniskirche aus dem 17. Jahrhundert wurde durch Fliegerbomben im 2. Weltkrieg zerstört. Heute sind in den Gebäuden Museen und das Stadtarchiv untergebracht.
