On Tuesday August 23, 2011, USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service along with state and local partners in New York State declared Islip New York free of the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB). The ALB is an invasive plant pest that is damaging to many species of hardwood trees; including Maple; Elm; Ash; Birch; Willow and Poplar trees.
