Description Corn growing an United States Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Research Service, Global Climate Change Lab, Soil Plant Atmosphere Research (SPAR) unit, in Beltsville, MD, on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. SPAR units provide precise control of the major environmental variables influencing crop growth including temperature, humidity, and atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration.
