Summary edit

Description SAVANNAH, Ga. – Col. Jeff Hall, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District, presents George "Chip" Whitton with the 2013 Team Member of the Year Award for an employee in the engineering and science field, July 12, 2013. Chip led the project delivery team in performing both the Remedial Investigation / Feasibility Study and a Non-Time-Critical Removal Action concurrently for the Camp Wheeler Formerly Used Defense Site. His work covered just over 12,700 acres and required 966 rights of entry to access privately-owned properties. During the investigation, Chip displayed focused leadership to ensure effective coordination between the project manager, project technical support, unexploded ordnance safety specialists, real estate, corporate communications, local news media, emergency responders, local and federal entities, utility companies, project contractor staff and the property owners. The Removal Action succeeded in destroying 358, 60mm mortars in the power line right of way, greatly reducing risk to utility workers and the public accessing the area for hunting and recreation.
