More about this work from Connie Mehmel: "This was part of a three-year post-fire insect response study following the 2014 Carlton Complex Fire. The traps are baited with a pheromone lure. Beetles fly in, hit the funnels and fall down into the white plastic cup, which is half filled with antifreeze. The catch is collected once a week. (The antifreeze is poured through a paper filter, which catches the dead beetles. The antifreeze is then poured back into the trap.)
